Illness Anxiety/Somatic Symptom Disorder
Illness Anxiety Disorder (IAD) involves excessive worry about having a serious medical condition despite minimal evidence. Individuals may seek reassurance through frequent medical visits. Somatic Symptom Disorder (SSD) entails a preoccupation with physical symptoms, causing distress and impairment. Both conditions are addressed through psychotherapy, especially Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, and sometimes medication.
